DAN COPLAN, SOC is a Los Angeles based cinematographer, Steadicam operator, and digital imaging technician (DIT).

Background With a degree in Computer Science and Music, Dan left an established career in Washington, DC in 1993 to move to the west coast and attend Academy of Art College in San Francisco. While pursuing his Masters degree in Motion Pictures, Dan interned at George Lucas' visual effects company, Industrial Light + Magic (ILM). Shortly thereafter, Dan moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for cinematography and work with leading professionals in the industry. Dec 14 & 16 NFL runs program called 'Total Access'. Dan worked as Steadicam and Camera Operator for this live on-air studio show. Dec 10 Like 'Cribs' up for grabs, 'Hollywood For Sale' is an HGTV pilot based on celebrity homes on the market. Dan came in as Steadicam Operator. Dec 5-9 HGTV is producing a competition based pilot based on the popularity of another show's special segment. Dan worked as Steadicam and Camera Operator. Nov 29 Honda put together a commercial branding campaign. Dan worked as Camera Operator for the spot. Nov 9 Dan worked as Camera Operator on a commercial for Playstation. Nov 1-19 HGTV has two shows in production on which Dan has bounced back and forth as Camera Operator and additional DP: "Going Yard" and "Design on a Dime". Oct 24 Dan worked on a commercial as Camera Operator for British television featuring a blind soccer team and world famous soccer star. Oct 22-23 The new season of "The Voice" is here. Dan worked as Steadicam and Camera operator, capturing footage of the new contestants. Oct 20 Working as DP, Dan shot a series of yoga training segments for a high profile yoga magazine producing web content. Oct 14 Dan got called back in to work on "Design On A Dime" as the Director of Photography. Oct 7-8 The championships of drifting were held at the Irwindale Speedway. Working for DirecTV, Dan shot 3D footage as Steadicam/Camera Operator. Oct 6 "Design On A Dime" is a show for HGTV network. Dan did a day as Camera Operator and splinter unit. Sep 26 Walmart is producing a series of commercials on which Dan participated as Camera Operator. Sep 25 The International Cinematographers Guild held their annual 'Emerging Cinematographers Award'. Dan was hired to shoot the event. Sep 17 Dan flew to Vegas to shoot Maroon 5 live in concert in 3D. He used the new Panasonic AG-3DP1, still in prototype. Sep 8 - 14 The Travel Channel is producing a new series titled, "Got Home Alive". Dan worked as DP and Camera Operator shooting recreations of real life near death experiences. Sep 6 Dan served as Camera Operator and DIT for the opening sequence to the 2011 Emmy Awards starring Jane Lynch from Glee and featuring Alec Baldwin, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Nealon, and the cast from 'Mad Men'. Aug 29 & 31 Dan scouted locations as DP for an upcoming shoot for a new Travel Channel show. Aug 25 Fear is not a factor for Dan as he suited up to shoot underwater for NBC's "Fear Factor". Aug 20 Dan worked as DIT for a broadcast promo for NBC's, "The Sing-Off". July 25 - Aug 6 "Boot Tracks" is a feature film starring Stephen Dorff and Michelle Monaghan. Dan served as Camera Operator for the movie. July 21 Dan operated Steadicam to help market a new product released by a well known computer company. July 20 Dan zipped out to Las Vegas to operate Steadicam for South Point Hotel Casino on the "strip". July 14 Shooting in 3D, Dan served as DP/Stereographer and Camera Operator for dance footage for DirecTV's 3D channel. July 11 A&E's "Storage Wars" featured vintage stereo equipment for an upcoming episode. Dan was on hand as Camera Operator to shoot the appraisal and subsequent interviews, including promo spots. June 21 - 23 Working with Arri's Alexa camera and the Canon 7D, Dan served as the DIT for a number of Mc Donald's commercial spots. May 31 - June 11 "Sexy Evil Genius" is a feature film starring Seth Green, Michelle Trachtenberg, Katee Sackhoff, Harold Perrineau, and Billy Baldwin. Dan worked on the project as Camera/Steadicam Operator. May 30 Dan was hired as Steadicam Operator for Mika Ben-Yami's music video, "Nothing Is Wrong". May 25 DirecTV has a 3D channel. Dan was brought on to shoot broadcast material of dancer auditions at Elevation Studios using Panasonic's 3DA1. May 23 Dan worked on a pilot for NBC: "Daily Dish", a docu-reality style show featuring large market radio DJ's. APR 16 Common Sense Media produced a PSA involving vampires in the woods. Dan was brought on as Steadicam and B-camera operator for the spot. APR 13 - 15 'EuroMillions' is the name for the UK's national lottery. Dan served as the DIT for elements shot in Las Vegas to be composited and combined with footage shot in the UK for this campaign. APR 5 "The Voice" is a variation of an "American Idol" style show with host Carson Daly and celebrity judges Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee-Lo, and Blake Shelton. Dan was called in to do Steadicam. APR 1 - 3 Katalyst Films is Ashton Kutcher's production company. Dan was brought in to work camera on a multi-cam 'behind-the-scenes' shoot for an Intel project based on a 48-hr. film festival. MAR 25 - 29 The Mexican national soccer team played Venezuela in an exhibition match. Dan shot footage of the game and worked on additional footage with the team for promotional material. MAR 19 Common Sense Media produced a spot bringing awareness to inappropriate material for children on TV. Dan was brought on as Steadicam and B-camera operator for this shoot involving vampires in the woods! MAR 7 Dan was hired as the DP for Dorit Simone's music video, "My Uh". FEB 24 E! Entertainment is ramping up for the 83rd Academy Awards with promos galore including a pre-show interview with hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Dan worked the action on the red carpet as the Steadicam operator for this footage. FEB 17 Footage was compiled for a new app for a car company. Dan worked as the DIT.
